43. The Most Unlucky Wedding (Part 2)

"Ye Li!"

In the garden of Prince Li's residence, Hua Tianxiang was walking and talking with Ye Li when a tall figure suddenly appeared in front of them.

“Prince Li, is there something you need” Hua Tianxiang stood in front of Ye Li, raising her beautiful face to ask. Ever since the incident at Chu Xiang Pavilion, Hua Tianxiang's favor toward Prince Li had been steadily declining and was now close to negative territory. Seeing Mo Jingli approach with an unsavory expression, she immediately assumed he was looking for trouble with Ye Li. Unimpressed, Mo Jingli frowned, "I'm not here for you." Without holding back, Hua Tianxiang retorted, "Shouldn't Your Highness be welcoming guests The garden is mostly occupied by ladies from various households; it would be inconvenient for Your Highness to move about. Even if Your Highness doesn’t mind your reputation, consider others at least."

“I have something to say to Ye Li. Move aside,” Mo Jingli impatiently said.

"Just speak up then; Li'er can hear you," Hua Tianxiang replied.

Moh Jingli's eyes narrowed dangerously, "Move aside!"

Hua Tianxiang wanted to say something more but was stopped by Ye Li. "Tianxiang, go check if Mu Ying and the others have arrived yet. I’ll be over there in a moment."

"But…" Hua Tianxiang glanced worriedly at Mo Jingli with concern. Ye Li smiled and said, "Don’t worry, Xu Yao will come to find me after he talks to Lady Hua." Upon hearing this, Hua Tianxiang playfully winked at Ye Li, her words tinged with teasing, "Xu…Yao…Alright, I’ll go look for Murong. You…be careful." She then gave Mo Jingli a warning glare before waving goodbye and leaving. Witnessing Hua Tianxiang’s rare display of childishness made Ye Li both amused and touched. As an aristocratic lady who understood the bigger picture, Hua Tianxiang would never provoke Mo Jingli unless it was for her sake. Looking at Hua Tianxiang's retreating figure, Mo Jingli’s originally gloomy face darkened even further.

Once Hua Tianxiang disappeared around the corner of the garden, Ye Li put away her smile and turned to look at Mo Jingli, "What does Your Highness have to say"

"Ye Li, you’re doing great!" Mo Jingli gritted his teeth.

Ye Li sized up Mo Jingli from head to toe with a mild tone, "I don’t understand what Your Highness is saying."

"Humph! Do you think this matter will end just like that" Mo Jingli sneered coldly at her.

"I thought… it’s none of Your Highness's business to speak about this," Ye Li said, puzzled. He had been the one who sent people to kidnap her and try something inappropriate; why did he now act as if she was in the wrong

"Do you think you can take revenge on me" Mo Jingli sneered disdainfully.

No need, usually I settle such matters right away, "If Your Highness has nothing more to say, I will bid farewell."

"Stop!" Mo Jingli snapped angrily and grabbed Ye Li, pulling her behind a rock formation. She glanced down at the hand gripping her wrist, her expression turning serious as well, "His Excellency Li Prince, please respect yourself!"

"Self-respect" Duke Mo Jingli sneered disdainfully. "Who do you think you are You're just a woman the prince doesn't want. Do you think that attaching yourself to Mo Xiuyao will make any difference Tell me, if someone were to see this now, would you still have the face to marry Mo Xiuyao Or perhaps even Mo Xiuyao himself would be repulsed by you"

Ye Li’s half-closed clear eyes flashed a hint of danger. "Duke Li, please let me go."

"And what are you going to do if I don’t" Duke Mo Jingli sneered, looking at the delicate woman before him as though she were a trapped bird in a cage. Unfortunately for him, he was unaware that this seemingly gentle and graceful lady was actually a formidable eagle capable of tearing flesh. Ye Li’s lips curled slightly. "What can I do This!" With her free hand, she swiftly and powerfully grabbed Duke Mo Jingli's arm. Applying just the right amount of pressure, she caused him excruciating pain. Before he could react, she used a side throw to send him crashing to the ground. To make matters worse, since they were standing near a rock formation, his head hit it as he fell, causing him to lose consciousness instantly. Ye Li hadn’t expected such an outcome and immediately halted her assault when she saw that there was no serious injury. She bent down to check on Duke Mo Jingli’s condition and finding nothing severe, stood up and kicked him several times to vent her anger. Her previous profession had made her more familiar with the human body than most people, allowing her to inflict pain without leaving any marks.

After calming her anger, Ye Li couldn’t help but frown. Knocking Duke Li unconscious in his own palace wasn't exactly a good thing, especially on the day of his wedding. However, it wasn’t something that couldn’t be explained away either. Glancing at the unconscious man on the ground, she calmly stepped over him and walked out composedly.

Leaving behind the rock formation, after turning a couple corners, she saw Hua Tianxiang and Mu Rong Ting waiting with worried expressions.

As soon as they saw Ye Li coming towards them, they hurried to her side. "Ah Li, are you okay Did Duke Li do anything to you" Mu Rong Ting anxiously asked while pulling at Ye Li’s sleeve.

Ye Li smiled and replied, "Look, I’m fine. How could he possibly harm me in broad daylight"

Mu Rong Ting chuckled awkwardly and said, "I was mistaken to think that way. But you really should stay away from Duke Li."

Hua Tianxiang nodded in agreement with a curious expression. "Why did it end so quickly"

Ye Li shrugged her shoulders. "There wasn’t much to say.

"Forget about those dampening people, let's go and sit down to have some tea instead. I really envy Zhen'er; Prime Minister Qin never forces her to attend banquets she doesn't like."

Ye Li nodded and walked hand in hand with the two of them towards a more crowded area.

The wedding proceeded as scheduled, which allowed for some hope that this marriage, which had previously missed its auspicious time due to the groom's delay, could still have an amicable conclusion if one ignored His Highness Li Prince's face resembling a funeral service. Ye Li sat next to Hua Tianxiang and saw Mo Xiuyao smiling at her from across the room. He then glanced over at Li Prince who was currently walking beside Ye Ying with his red ribbon tied to hers, deepening the smile on his face.

Ye Li instantly understood that Mo Xiuyao must have already known what happened to Li Prince earlier in the afternoon. However, looking at Mo Xiuyao’s gaze, Ye Li felt there might still be more to come.

When the wedding ceremony was halfway through and the officiant announced for the bride and groom to bow to each other, only for the groom to suddenly collapse on the ground with a thud, Ye Li wasn't even remotely surprised. Instead, she had a sense of "I knew it". At this moment, Ye Li believed that Li Prince probably never wanted to get married again in his entire life. Anybody who fainted three times within twelve hours before and after their wedding would develop some form of trauma regarding weddings.

"How… how could this happen" Mu Songting was so shocked her jaw nearly dropped.

Hua Tianxiang, similarly stunned, said, "This…" She didn't know what to say. In fact, she began to feel a bit sympathetic towards Ye Ying. Missing the auspicious time during the wedding procession was already bad enough, but now the groom had fainted at the ceremony…

"Phew... Ah Li, this Li Prince's health is too poor. Fortunately…"

Everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events. It was only Dowager Xianzhao who quickly reacted and ordered people to take the newlyweds back to their chamber while sending for a physician. The groom had fainted, but the wedding banquet still had to continue; it's just that guests couldn't bring themselves to enjoy their food anymore. Noblewomen were speculating about Li Prince’s real reason for fainting while considering what new gossip would arise in the capital tomorrow. Ye Li went through in her mind all possible consequences of having knocked out Mo Jinglei earlier and felt reassured when she concluded there wouldn’t be any major issues, allowing her to enjoy a sumptuous meal with Hua Tianxiang and Mu Songting. When she saw a man smiling smugly from some obscure corner and nodding at her as if offering a toast, Ye Li simply nodded back as a courtesy. This wedding… was indeed quite interesting.
